ACTIVITIES
Akkerboom Country Cottages provides easy access to a range of activities in the area. On the farm we offer hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, star gazing, a trading post and orchard and pack house tours.

Hiking and mountain bike trail
We have a 30 km hiking and mountain biking route that runs along the Goedgeloof Stream and original road and trekker route through the area. Picnic at a stunning waterfall on the Goedgeloof Stream with the klipspringer and black eagles. The mountain biking route forms part of the 2007 Cape Epic route which passes alongside the cottages.

Bird watching
Akkerboom Country Cottages lies at the transition of the Mountain Fynbos and Little Karoo which provides a wide range of habitat types across two biomes. The area lies at the watershed of three rivers with extensive wetlands with a wide range of species of water birds. We have recorded over 160 bird species on the farm - see if you can add to the list. The cottages lie alongside a perennial stream with amazing habitat for typical karoo as well as water bird species.

Star gazing
The clear air and dark skies provide an excellent base from which to view the Southern skies. Satellites and shooting stars guaranteed.

Wine tasting
Akkerboom Country Cottages lies in the heart of the Klein Karoo Wine Region and in close proximity to a number of cellars and co-operatives. Highland Wines on neighbouring farm, Die Vlake is home to one of the highest Sauvignon Blanc wine yards in the country which gives rise to a dry and crisp wine. Joubert-Tradauw Private Cellar offers classic Bordeaux style reds and a world-class Chardonnay. The cellars at Barrydale are famous for their mascadel & brandy.
All of the local wines can be enjoyed at the Akkerboom Trading Post.
